This year Cardiomyopathy UK turns 30 and what better way to celebrate this milestone and raise some money than baking cakes? Here at SiteWizard, we love to bake treats for the entire office to enjoy and this becomes even more worthwhile when it’s in the name of a great charity.

Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle that affects at least 1 in 500 people and a total of around 160,000 people in the UK. Cardiomyopathy is often genetic meaning it’s an inherited disease that can run in families.  Whilst this is a serious condition and can change the lives of those with a diagnosis, with the right treatment and support, it is possible to live a full and active life.

Cardiomyopathy UK is a charity providing care and support for those with Cardiomyopathy as well as their family and friends. They are incredibly active both online and in local communities, with a Facebook Group, online and telephone support from a nurse or peer support volunteer and plenty of information and advice available on their website. Information on the website is available to download, and the charity also runs a quarterly magazine ‘My Life’ that includes lots of helpful information, personal stories and updates on the work the charity is doing. Locally, there are charity run events and support groups for those who want to connect with others affected by Cardiomyopathy and share their experiences and advice.

The charity is especially close to the heart of one of our colleagues, who organised the event in memory of their brother-in-law, Lindsey Gordon Thomas. The charity was incredibly supportive to Lindsey when he was living with the disease and continued to offer great support to his family after he sadly passed away in 2016. Since his passing, family, friends and supporters have helped to raise almost £50,000 for the Cardiomyopathy UK in his name so that they may continue their fantastic services for others.

Wanting to add to the fantastic efforts that have been made so far, a Bake Off was organised at the office to raise more money for Cardiomyopathy UK. Our meeting room was decorated in the charity colours and banners and The SiteWizard Team did not disappoint, ensuring we were fully supplied with cakes, brownies, flapjacks, pastries and more! With the generosity of the bakers and buyers, we managed to raise an impressive £219.52!

We’d love to continue to support the great work being done by Cardiomyopathy UK and have set up a donation button on our Facebook Page for those who would like to support the charity. Or, why not have a Bake Off of your own? For more information on the charity, the support they give and ways in which you can help please visit: https://www.cardiomyopathy.org/
